Rio Olympics update...

New Zealand has 1 gold medal and 3 silver medals.
Hamish Bond & Eric Murray won the gold medal for rowing.
The New Zealand womens sevens team won a silver medal.
Ethan Mitchell, Sam Webster and Eddie Dawkins won a silver medal for cycling.
Luuka Jones won a silver for canoe slalom.
Natalie Rooney won a silver medal for clay shooting.

Matariki

1.In Maori what does the word 'Matariki' mean? 
In maori Matariki means Pleiades

2.In traditional times what did Maori acknowledge with the arrival of Matariki?
 Maori to come together and far well those who departed and the year gone by.

3.How did Matariki affect Maori farming?
It predicted the outcome of the next season’s crops. The brighter the stars the better the crops would turn out.

4.Explain briefly one legend of how Matariki came to be.
Matariki literally means the ‘eyes of god’ (mata ariki) or ‘little eyes’ (mata riki). Some say that when Ranginui, the sky father, and Papatūānuku, the earth mother were separated by their offspring, the god of the winds, Tāwhirimātea, became angry, tearing out his eyes and hurling them into the heavens

5.What current holidays do some people believe Matariki should take the place of?
People have been trying to replace it with Queens birthday weekend.

Yes matariki should become a public holiday because in the maori tradition Matariki is something special towards maori culture.

- Because students from Christchurch Boys High wanted to make a fake Facebook page

-The boys who were involved should be Expelled because there putting their own school in a bad name, And should apologize for what they have caused
